This semester has gone by extremely fast and that kind of makes me sad. I hope the rest of college doesn't fly by like this semester did. I have had so much fun and I've met amazing people. I don't think I ready for it to end. Even though it has been super stressful I wouldn't trade it for anything. College is everything everyone says it is and that is awesome.

With finals coming up classes are getting super stressful and there is a lot of work still to be done with a couple weeks of school left. This semester has been a really good first semester its been a lot of fun but also a lot of work. Ive made some really good grades so I am happy with how its gone. I am not taking 8:30s next semester i know that is for sure and i could not be more excited. I don't know how I ever got up for high school. I can get 10 hours of sleep here and I still need a nap in the middle of the day to make it to through the day. I am also running out of ideas for blogs so it is good that we are coming to a close because this is the struggle.

My engagement at the University of South Carolina has been mostly through student government. As of right now I am the President of East Quad and I am a member of freshman council. They have both been super rewarding experiences but I have to say freshman council really trumps. I has been an amazing experience and I have met so many wonderful people. I have met upperclassmen who I may not of had the chance to meet. I've gotten paired up with my amazing mentor Patrick and heard his priceless advice and also knowing someone will always be there for me. I just have to say that honestly I love Carolina so much and I am glad to call this home.

This year has been a really fun year already I love South Carolina and everything about it, but my favorite thing I've done so far is Freshman Council. I love Politics its an intro to student government which i also really like. I did it in highschool and i really enjoyed it then and it is even better now. As of right now I might want to run for an executive position so I am trying to do my best so my work can show for why I should have one of the positions. I can't wait to see what else happens this year and how many friends I will make!

My blog this week is supposed to be about a random act of kindness that i have preformed recently nothing major has come back to my memory but I know I have been trying to be better about holding doors for people. It makes you look good and you expect nothing out of it. Of course it is gentlemen like but it also super nice and you can do it for anyone and it is an easy way to make anyones day a little better in the long wrong. Plus it is super easy to do and literally cost you nothing at all except a few seconds of your very long day.

My favorite person I have met at USC is by far Ross Lordo. I met him at Pillars for Carolina he was my extended mentor. He has been my guiding light since I have been on campus. He really helped me realize what I wanted to do when I got on campus. He has also been a big brother for me, he really watches out for me and makes sure I do what I need to do. I can not be more thankful for what he has does for me and I make sure to remind him of that often so his efforts don't go un appreciated. I really hope to be like him when I grow up no matter how cliche that is.

My ultimate dream job is to work at a lobbyist firm on K street for a financial cooperation. I love the fact you get to work with people and politics. I know this is an extremely difficult goal to obtain but it is really what I want. I love the idea of you playing a huge roll on what goes on behind the scenes in government. I know lobbyist get a bad rep but they are really the people that get things done. They are the driving force of the politicians to do anything at all. Without them almost more than nothing would get done in Washington and we all already know how slow they move. More than anything its what I want. My main goal in life though is to be happy. If that is doing something I don't see my self doing now so be it. Im sure my goal will change because different things in life will happen. So really I guess my ultimate dream job is to just be happy.

Ps. Being a stay at home dad is also very intriguing work. So future wife if you're reading this I hope you are getting a good degree. We could both use it.

The past week was no big deal... We only had like a thousand year flood or whatever. Actually it was awful many people lost their homes and lives and the city of columbia has been amazing as far as responding to the situation. I wish there is more I could do to help anyone and everyone. It hurts my heart to know that people lost everything. I went home to Charleston which wasn't much better off. I haven't had internet until today (10-10-15). It's crazy to think people are still without power and water. They are saying the state had rainfall in the trillions of gallons and thats absolutely crazy to think about. I just hope everything will work out and everybody will be okay.

So far in college academic engagement has been a highlight. I have been to several SI sessions as well i have been out to eat with one of my professors. It was an amazing experience, it awesome getting to know them. You find out they are just like you and you can make common connections, and you will need to know them so that way if you ever need a recommendation letter they can help you. It is also super neat with the tips they give you to help you make your way through not only college but also life. Most importantly though, you can make a friend and everyone could always use a friend. SI is also an amazing tool to help you with your classes. I've used it for my philosophy 110 class and it has been instrumental and I recommend it to everyone.

Since this is my first blog I figured it would be best to talk about my life. My name is Mickey Fennell and I am from Charleston South Carolina. I was born in Myrtle Beach but after only a couple of years my family moved to Charleston. My family is a super close knit family, I have two younger sisters mean the world to me. My mom and dad are both amazing people who make me the person I am by encouraging me to do my best everyday. As a child I grew up playing baseball (which boy didn't) and I lived to play and watch the game. As I got older I realized baseball wasn't exactly my thing. I had to try a new sport so I could stay active, so I tried swimming and I fell in love. I swam for 5 years and I wouldn't trade them for anything. It taught me leadership and people skills but most importantly it taught me how to dedicate my self to something. Swimming also helped me discover my passion for people. Being around people helping them become better and more successful is what wakes me up in the morning. I am a super positive person, I think every day is a great day and you should do everything a 130% because everybody already does 110% so you have to step it up. Through high school the University of South Carolina was my dream school. I grew up a Gamecock fan and I plan to go out that way as well. As quick as high school passed it was an amazing time filled with memories and friends that will last a life time and as I sit here and write this blog for one of my first college classes it is almost mind boggling how fast time has gone. It seems like just the other day I was in 8th grade doing algebra 2. At USC I want to become super involved which is why I am doing residence hall government, I applied for freshman council, and I am hoping to get involved in the business fraternity Delta Sigma Pi. As this next chapter of my life begins I am super excited and I hope to just stay sane but I think I am ready for any obstacle that comes my way!.GO COCKS!
